Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7: Complete Guide to Samsung's Next Foldable Phone

📅 February 8, 2026 ⏱️ 6 min read

Samsung is preparing the next generation of the world's most popular foldable phone. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 brings larger displays and a new processor — but also some surprises that may not please everyone. Let's take a look at everything based on leaks and official information.

📐 Design: Bigger, But Not Thinner

According to CAD-based renders published by Android Headlines in February 2025, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 looks very similar to its predecessor. The design remains essentially the same — Samsung isn't trying to change a formula that works.

What does change is the dimensions. The Flip 7 grows to 166.6 x 75.2 x 6.9mm (unfolded), compared to 165.1 x 71.9 x 6.9mm on the Flip 6. It essentially becomes slightly taller and noticeably wider — which is expected since it accommodates larger displays.

The thickness remains at ~15mm when folded — exactly the same as before. This might disappoint some, especially given that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected with a dramatically thinner design (~9mm folded, according to leaks). It seems Samsung focused on the Fold for this year's design revolution, while the Flip received a more conservative upgrade.

📱 Displays: Finally Bigger

The main reason the Flip 7's body grew is the larger displays — and this is a welcome upgrade.

The inner display goes up to 6.85 inches (up from 6.7″ on the Flip 6), remaining a foldable AMOLED with 120Hz refresh rate. It's not a huge change, but every millimeter counts on such a compact device.

The real improvement is in the cover display, which grows to ~4 inches (from 3.4″ on the Flip 6). This means much more room for widgets, quick replies, Google Maps navigation, and basic functions without needing to unfold the phone. Samsung seems to finally be listening to user complaints — the small cover display was always a point of friction.

📊 Flip 7 vs Flip 6: Displays

Inner Display 6.85″ vs 6.7″
Cover Display ~4.0″ vs 3.4″
Refresh Rate 120Hz (both)
Thickness (Folded) ~15mm (same)

⚡ Processor: The Big Change — Exynos Instead of Snapdragon

This is where the most controversial change lies. According to a report by Chosun (December 2024), Samsung plans to replace Snapdragon with its own Exynos 2500 in the Galaxy Z Flip 7. Until now, Samsung used Snapdragon exclusively in all foldables worldwide — this would be the first time it changes.

The backstory is interesting: Samsung originally planned to put the Exynos 2500 in the Galaxy S25 series, but production problems with 3nm chips forced the company to go exclusively with Snapdragon 8 Elite. Now, it says production has “stabilized” and the Exynos 2500 is ready.

This concerns some people. Exynos has traditionally lagged behind in GPU performance and energy efficiency compared to Snapdragon. However, the Exynos 2500 is the first 3nm generation, and Samsung promises significant improvement. If that holds true, costs will decrease — which might translate to a lower retail price.

It remains unclear whether the Exynos will be used globally or if some markets (US, China) will get Snapdragon. Samsung has done regional splits in the past with the Galaxy S series.

📷 Camera: Status Quo

The news here isn't particularly encouraging. According to a leak by GalaxyClub (January 2025), Samsung will use the exact same camera sensors:

  • 50MP main camera — same as Flip 6, Flip 5, Flip 4
  • 12MP ultrawide — unchanged for generations
  • 10MP selfie — hole-punch, no change

This stagnation in cameras is a problem. Samsung seems to believe that the form factor (foldable) is enough of a selling point and isn't investing in camera upgrades. On the other hand, the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra offered a 50MP telephoto, while the Oppo Find N5 Flip is entering the market aggressively.

The hope? That the new ISP (Image Signal Processor) of the Exynos 2500 will improve computational photography — meaning better night photo processing, HDR, and video without hardware changes.

💰 Price & Release Date

Samsung consistently follows a summer launch cycle for foldables. Galaxy Unpacked is expected in July 2025, with availability in stores within 1-2 weeks.

The Flip 6's price was $1,099 / ~€1,199 in Europe. If Samsung uses Exynos instead of Snapdragon, there's a possibility of a slight price reduction or at least maintaining the same price level. However, there's no official information yet.

📱 Galaxy Z Flip FE: The Budget Alternative

An interesting development: according to reports, Samsung is also preparing a Galaxy Z Flip FE (Fan Edition) — a more affordable version of the foldable. It will also use the Exynos 2500, but with reduced specs (RAM, storage, build materials).

This move shows that Samsung wants to make foldables more accessible. If a Flip FE launches below €700-800, it could bring many more people into the foldable market.

📉 The Truth Behind the Numbers

There's important context behind all of this: foldable sales didn't go well in 2024. According to reports (December 2024), both the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 failed to meet Samsung's sales targets. The company was forced to reduce production plans for 2025.

This explains a lot. The shift to Exynos reduces costs. Keeping the same cameras reduces costs. Adding a Flip FE targets a new audience. Samsung is playing defensively — trying to make foldables economically viable rather than chasing bleeding-edge specs.

At the same time, competition is growing. Huawei, Xiaomi, Motorola, Oppo — they're all bringing foldables with competitive specs at lower prices. Samsung is no longer alone in the game.

🤔 Is It Worth the Wait?

If you already have a Galaxy Z Flip 5 or 6, the truth is the Flip 7 doesn't seem to bring a game-changing upgrade. Bigger cover display? Yes, nice. But the same cameras, same thickness, and a controversial Exynos don't make for a compelling upgrade.

However, if you've never had a foldable before, or if you're coming from a Flip 4 or older, the Flip 7 will be a significant upgrade in every area — and if the price drops due to Exynos, it'll be even more attractive.

Also, don't forget about the Galaxy Z Flip FE — if it's priced right, it could be the best entry point into foldables.
