iPhone 17e February 2026 Release: Complete Guide to Apple's New Budget Smartphone

📅 February 7, 2026 ⏱️ 5 min read ✍️ OnOff Team
Apple is preparing to announce the iPhone 17e — the successor to the iPhone 16e — likely on February 19, 2026, according to reports from Macwelt. This is the most affordable iPhone in the lineup, featuring significant upgrades to the processor, connectivity, and possibly the design. Is it worth the wait? Let's take a look at what we know.

📱 Design: Familiar Form, New Touches

According to MacRumors, the iPhone 17e will look quite similar to its predecessor — a 6.1-inch display, a single rear camera lens, and color options in black and white. However, the biggest visual change may be the transition from the notch to the Dynamic Island.

The Dynamic Island, first introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro, replaces the notch with a pill-shaped cutout that integrates better with the software. It displays notifications, Live Activities, navigation directions, and much more — making something useful out of what was previously just “dead space.”

⚠️ Note: A rumor (December 2025) suggests that the iPhone 17e may keep the notch instead of the Dynamic Island. The upgrade is not guaranteed, although the majority of reports support the change.

What is definitely changing are the thinner bezels, which will provide a larger visible screen area without changing the overall size.

⚡ A19 Processor: Flagship Power in a Budget Model

The most significant upgrade concerns the chip. The iPhone 17e will feature the A19 processor — the same one used in the standard iPhone 17. This is a chip manufactured using TSMC's 3nm (N3P) technology.

According to MacRumors, Apple may use a downclocked version of the A19, meaning slightly lower clock speeds than the standard iPhone 17. Similarly, the GPU may be 4-core instead of 5-core, following the same strategy used with the iPhone 16e and the A18.

Nevertheless, the A19 brings significant improvements: an updated Neural Engine for AI tasks, an improved display engine, and a Neural Accelerator per GPU core — something critical for Apple Intelligence features.

📶 MagSafe: Finally!

One of the biggest disappointments of the iPhone 16e was the lack of MagSafe. The magnetic ring that supports hundreds of accessories — cases, chargers, power banks — simply wasn't there, limiting wireless charging to just 7.5W.

🔋 iPhone 16e (Without MagSafe)

Wireless charging at only 7.5W. Incompatible with MagSafe cases and accessories. Practically locked out of the ecosystem.

⚡ iPhone 17e (With MagSafe)

Expected to support magnetic wireless charging of at least 15W. Full compatibility with all MagSafe accessories from iPhone 12 onwards.

This change alone makes the iPhone 17e a much more attractive proposition. The current iPhone 17 models support 25W MagSafe, while the iPhone Air reaches 20W.

📸 Camera & Display: No Surprises

In terms of camera, don't expect any surprises. The iPhone 17e will feature a 48MP Wide Angle rear camera, with no upgrade compared to the 16e. The front camera remains at 12MP — unlike the iPhone 17 models which were upgraded to 18MP Center Stage.

The display will remain at 60Hz, with no ProMotion or always-on display. While the iPhone 17 models feature 120Hz displays, this technology is kept out of the budget model to maintain pricing differentiation.

📡 C1X Modem: Faster Connectivity

The iPhone 17e will adopt the Apple C1X modem — the same modem first introduced in the iPhone Air. According to Apple, it is up to 2x faster than the C1 modem in the iPhone 16e, with significantly improved energy efficiency compared to Qualcomm modems.

However, it's worth noting that it will not include the N1 chip — Apple's new Wi-Fi and Bluetooth networking chip found in the iPhone 17 models. This omission is for cost reasons, although it's somewhat ironic given that Apple developed the N1 precisely for cost savings.

💰 Price & Release Date

The price is expected to remain at $599 in the US — unchanged from the iPhone 16e.

🗓️ Announcement date: According to a report from Macwelt (February 2026), Apple plans to announce the iPhone 17e on February 19, 2026 — exactly one year after the iPhone 16e. The announcement is expected via press release, without a special event.

In Greece, the price is expected to be around €699-€749 for the base model, depending on storage capacity. This is an excellent price considering you get the A19 chip with Apple Intelligence, MagSafe, and possibly Dynamic Island.

🤔 Is the Upgrade Worth It?

If you have an iPhone 16e, the upgrade depends mainly on two factors: MagSafe and Dynamic Island. If these features matter to you, then yes. If not, the A19 doesn't offer a dramatic difference over the A18.

However, if you have an iPhone SE or iPhone 14/13, then the iPhone 17e is an excellent upgrade choice. You get a modern chip with AI capabilities, an OLED display, and full compatibility with the MagSafe ecosystem — at a price much lower than the iPhone 17/17 Pro.
