How it works

IRIS has been connected to SEPA Instant Credit Transfer, the European instant payments system. This means you can send money to an account in Germany, France, Italy, or anywhere in the Eurozone — and it arrives in 10 seconds.

You only need the recipient's IBAN. Fees are minimal or zero for transfers up to €100,000. Special arrangements apply for larger amounts.

🇪🇺 The future of payments

The European Union is pushing for universal adoption of SEPA Instant. By 2027, all banks in the Eurozone will be required to support it. IRIS has given Greece a head start.

The digital euro, when it arrives, will complement SEPA Instant. IRIS will remain as a tool for transfers between accounts, while the digital euro will also be used for in-store purchases.
