iPhone Air Long-Term Review: 4 Months of Real-World Testing Reveals the Truth About Apple's Thinnest iPhone

📅 February 7, 2026 ⏱️ 5 min read ✍️ OnOff Team
In September 2025, Apple released the iPhone Air — the thinnest iPhone in history. Four months later, after extensive daily use, we can give an honest assessment. Is it worth $999? The answer isn't that simple.

📐 Design: The WOW Factor Remains

At just 5.6mm thick and weighing 165 grams, the iPhone Air continues to impress every time you pull it out of your pocket. It's 30% thinner and 25% lighter than the standard iPhone 17. Four months later, that feeling hasn't faded.

The Grade 5 titanium frame with glossy mirror finish shows no signs of wear, despite daily use without a case. Multiple bend tests showed that the device doesn't bend in your pocket — thanks to titanium's flexibility. Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and back offers 3x better scratch resistance.

📸 Camera: The Big Downside

Let's address the elephant in the room. The iPhone Air has only one camera — the 48MP Fusion lens. After 4 months of use, this proves to be the biggest drawback. There's no Ultra Wide for wide-angle shots, no Telephoto for zoom, and no macro mode.

The good news? The Fusion lens does an excellent job for everyday photos. Portraits are stunning thanks to the new Focus Control, which works without a second lens. The 18MP front camera with Center Stage is the best selfie camera on any iPhone.

🔋 Battery: “Just OK”

The 3,149 mAh battery is the smallest in any 2025 flagship iPhone. Apple promises 27 hours of video playback, and in practice this translates to a full day of light use or 6-7 hours of screen-on time with moderate use.

If you're a heavy user, you'll need to charge during the day. Apple addresses this with the $99 MagSafe Battery Pack that extends battery life to 40 hours. Wireless charging reaches 20W (vs 25W on the iPhone 17 Pro), while wired charging via USB-C gives you 50% in 30 minutes.

✅ Battery Pros

iOS 26 Adaptive Power mode intelligently manages energy. Lasts a full day with light use.

❌ Battery Cons

Smallest battery in the lineup. Heavy users need a top-up during the day. 20W instead of 25W wireless.

⚡ Performance: A19 Pro Without Thermal Issues

The iPhone Air uses the same A19 Pro chip as the Pro models, albeit with one fewer GPU core (5 instead of 6). In practice, the difference is nearly imperceptible. The chip stays cool even under heavy use — something that surprised reviewers given the thin design.

With 12GB RAM and the new C1X modem (2x faster than the C1), performance in gaming, editing, and multitasking is flawless. Apple Intelligence runs smoothly on-device.

⚠️ Note: The iPhone Air doesn't support mmWave 5G — only sub-6GHz. In most European countries, this isn't an issue as mmWave networks aren't available.

📱 Display & Features

The 6.5″ Super Retina XDR OLED display with 120Hz ProMotion is excellent. The 3,000 nits outdoor brightness makes reading easy even under direct sunlight. The new anti-reflective coating noticeably reduces reflections.

The iPhone Air is eSIM-only worldwide — there's no physical SIM slot. Most major carriers now fully support eSIM, so this shouldn't be an issue. It also features Action Button, Camera Control, Face ID, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and IP68 water resistance.

💰 Is It Worth It? The Verdict

The iPhone Air starts at $999 (256GB). According to reports, sales haven't been great globally — Apple has cut production by 80% and is delaying the iPhone Air 2 until at least 2027.

"I love the iPhone Air, but it's not for everyone. If you prioritize the camera or battery, consider the iPhone 17 Pro. If you want the most elegant iPhone ever, nothing beats it." — MacRumors, Long-Term Review, February 2026
